How You Should Tilt the Louvers on Your Home’s Window Shutters

How You Should Tilt the Louvers on Your Home’s Window Shutters

When you have window shutters in St. Petersburg, FL installed in your home, they’ll typically be made up of a bunch of different louvers. You’ll be able to adjust these louvers in whatever way that you see fit. You can open them up wide or close them up tight by tilting them up or down in either direction. Before you start tinkering around with these louvers too much, though, you should figure out how to tilt them based on what you would like them to do for you. Learn how you should tilt the louvers on your home’s window shutters below.

If you want to let a lot of light into your home:

If you’re trying to bring a lot of natural light into your home, your St. Petersburg, FL shutters can help you do it. They’ll be especially effective if you open them up all the way and then point them down just a little bit. This will bring light into your home and point it towards the ground where you can benefit from it as opposed to pointing it up where it won’t always reach you.

If you want to stop light from coming into your home:

If you don’t want to let any natural light come into your home, you should point your shutters either all the way up or all the way down. Most people will point shutters down, but it’s worth noting that some shutters are more effective at blocking light when they’re pointed up. You should test both ways out and see which one works the best for you. You might be surprised to see how effective your shutters can be when the louvers are pointed in one direction or the other.

If you want to make your home as private as possible:

If you need to make your home more private than it is right now, your natural inclination might be to tilt your louvers down. This is going to make it hard for you to see out your windows, so you might think that others would have trouble seeing in. But this can actually leave a small sliver in between your louvers for people to see in. It’s why you should instead point louvers up when you want to increase the privacy levels in your home.

If you want to change the temperature in your home:

If you’re interested in making the inside of your home a little warmer than it is at the moment, you may be able to use your shutters to do it. When you point the louvers for your shutters down, they can sometimes trap heat in them and cool off a room. By pointing them up, you’ll prevent them from having this same effect. It’ll often lead to a room heating up thanks to all the heat that will be unleashed by your shutters.
